A place full of significance
Belchite is a municipality from Zaragoza located just 50 kilometres away from the capital of Aragón. This region is renowned by its high-quality olive and wine production areas, but also by the Pueblo Viejo de Belchite remains, an important monument to the historical memory of Spain located next to the current village.
These remains are, undoubtedly, one of the most shocking and representative places of the recent history of Spain. After the destruction of the old town of Belchite in 1937 during the Spanish civil war, a new town was built in the mid-1950s according to the traditional and sober architecture of that time.
